Waterfalls Of Spearfish Canyon
(Meeting time: Sat 3:00-6:00pm) Towering limestone cliffs and a rushing mountain stream will allow you many photo opportunities along the 19-mile stretch of US Highway 14A known as Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway. The canyon has 2 main water falls Bridal Veil and Roughlock. You will have the opportunity to test your photographic skills with macro, normal and telephoto photography. When you are in the “Canyon” you will feel like you are in a rain forest. Don’t forget your tripod for long exposures of the falls. Instructor: Markus Erk
Iconic Landscapes: Sylvan Lake Photo Walk
(Meeting time: Sat 3:00-6:00pm) Considered to be the crown jewel of Custer State Park, Sylvan Lake is a favorite location among landscape photographers. We will be following the walking trails around the lake, photographing it from several different locations. There may be some climbing involved so wear your boots. Bring your wide-angle lens as well as your tripod. If you have a polarizer be sure to bring it along. Instructor: Kendra Perry Koski
Mastering Raw Development in Light Room
(Meeting time: Sat 3:00-6:00pm) This course will teach you how to master the Develop module in Lightroom Classic CC, and get the most out of your camera's RAW files. Learn how to optimize your files, starting with in camera exposure, and moving to the global and local adjustments in Lightroom development. This class will cover basic and advanced adjustments, photo merging, and color grading to help you create a look to you photos that is uniquely yours. **Recommended that you attended What You Missed When You Installed Lightroom, first, or are comfortable with importing and file management in Lightroom Classic.** Instructor: Skott Chandler. Backroads Tour: Cement Ridge Lookout Tower And Beyond
(Meeting time: Sat 2:10-6:10pm) Would you like to discover parts of the Black Hills that only the locals get to experience? If so, spend a day exploring the backcountry, enjoy some of the best vistas in the Black Hills from a 75-year-old Lookout Tower that is still manned and vigilantly watching to protect our beautiful forests from fire, and enjoy the freedom that can only be experienced from feeling the wind blow through your hair on yet another picturesque South Dakota afternoon. We will be taking back roads to the Cement Ridge Lookout Tower for breathtaking views of the western Black Hills and Wyoming. On our route is the historic ghost town of Tinton and tons of possibilities for photos. We will be taking backroads to our destination. If you are planning on driving, you will need and SUV or similar vehicle with higher clearance than a typical car. In the past there has been ample room for carpooling as well. The tour generally takes 3-4 hours depending on how often we stop to take photographs. Jerry Rawlings teaches photography at Black Hills State University and has spent the majority of his life in the Black Hills area where he spends his free time exploring the backcountry of this remarkable area. Jerry will take a small group of photographers into areas that are not accessible by normal automobiles and show them a side of the Black Hills that most visitors would never have a chance to experience. The roads will be rough and dusty, but the memories will last long after the road grime is showered off. Instructor: Jerry Rawlings
Photo Hike At Iron Creek Trail ~ SESSION FULL ~
(Meeting time: Sat 3:00-6:00pm) Take a beautiful and relaxing hike along one of the most beautiful hikes in Spearfish Canyon, Iron Creek Trail near Savoy. The trail follows Iron Creek through granite cliffs, which will be lined with the brilliant colors of autumn. Steve will begin the walk with a discussion on how to approach this unique landscape technically and composition. There will also be a discussion and demonstration of useful basic equipment for photographing landscape. You will then head out to discover and photograph this amazing and beautiful spot in the Black Hills. Good hiking shoes and a tripod are recommended. Instructor: Steve Babbitt
